Kazakhstan-US Investment Forum

The Embassy of Kazakhstan in partnership with Newsdesk Media Inc hosted four annual Kazakhstan-US Investment Forums in New York since 2008. The key objective of each forum was to build the institutional network with strategic investors, stimulate and maintain growth of foreign direct investments into the Kazakhstan’s economy and develop business competence about the country’s investment climate through working closely with both the U.S. private and public sectors.

Starting from 2012 the Embassy in partnership with Kaznex-Invest Agency has practiced organizing industrial-innovative road shows aimed at attracting investors to specific industries of the country’s economy. The road show which was held in April 10-14, 2012, was the first event that was entirely devoted to the presentation of investment opportunities in priority sectors in Kazakhstan. The road show was focused on the six main sectors of the economy: agriculture, chemical and petrochemical, machinery, metallurgy, IT and telecommunications.

The presentations took place in major U.S. cities — Washington D.C., New York, Chicago and San-Francisco, where Kazakhstani government officials and business leaders presented a wide range of current and planned investment projects and opportunities open to foreign direct investments by American businesses and investors. Admission to the road show events was complimentary and offered to qualified participants by invitation only. After the presentation there were opportunities for one-on-one networking with Kazakhstan officials and corporate managers.

As a result, Memorandums of understanding (MoU) were signed with companies such as GlaxoSmithKline, Bloomingfeld and Transcosmos. Some of these agreements became the framework for concrete cooperation. For instance, Kazakhstan national telecom operator Kazakhtelecom has agreed with Transcosmos to work on development of various innovative IT services in Kazakhstan. Under the terms of the deal, Transcosmos will help launch and develop portals which include location and email services, gaming portals, and deploy and develop CDN networks.
